If your premises are upstairs, behind another unit, on an unmarked industrial estate, or share a street number with three other businesses, you are losing customers who set out to visit and gave up. A find-us QR code turns a printed address into working directions plus the practical detail a map cannot carry: which door, which floor, where to park.
The customers you never hear from
A business with an obvious shopfront on a high street rarely thinks about this. A business on the first floor above a takeaway, in unit 14b of an estate with no signage, or through an unmarked door beside a different shop, loses people constantly — and almost never finds out, because someone who cannot find you does not ring to complain. They go somewhere else.
The tell is a gap between enquiries and arrivals, or regular calls that begin "I think I am outside but I cannot see you."
What a map link cannot tell them
Mapping services get people to a coordinate. They do not explain which of four doors to use, that the entrance is round the back, that the buzzer is unlabelled, or that the car park entrance is on a different street.
That is the gap a find-us page fills. Point the code at a short page carrying the map link and the arrival detail, ideally with a photograph of the actual door. A picture of the entrance does more than any amount of written description, because the customer is matching what they see to what they are looking for.
- A photograph of the entrance as it appears from the street.
- Which floor, which unit, which buzzer.
- Where to park, and any restrictions.
- The nearest recognisable landmark — a map coordinate is abstract, "next to the blue barber shop" is not.
- A number to call if they are outside and stuck.
Where to put a find-us code
The code needs to be somewhere people look before they set off, and somewhere they look when they are already lost and nearby.
Before: your website contact page, email signature, confirmation emails, business cards and any printed advertising. When lost: the window or door of the building, at a size readable from across the street, and on any signage at the estate entrance if you are allowed one.
- Confirmation and booking emails — the single highest-value placement.
- Business cards and printed advertising.
- Window or door decal, 15–30cm for reading from the pavement.
- Estate or building entrance signage, where permitted.
- The back of loyalty cards and receipts.
Say what the code does
On this use in particular, the label matters more than the code. Someone who is lost is not in an exploratory mood, and an unlabelled code is one more thing to work out.
"Scan for directions" or "Can't find us? Scan here" tells them immediately that the code solves the exact problem they currently have. That single line is the difference between a code that gets scanned and one that gets ignored.
